Jan Budar started his career in Brno's theatres under the tutelage of Vladimír Morávek, one of the most acclaimed Czech theatre directors. This fruitful co-operation culminated in their first film BORED IN BRNO (2002), which marked not only Jan's acting debut in film, but also his roles as coauthor and music composer. The comedy was awarded five Czech Lions in 2003, including "Best Male Actor" for Jan.
This success led to roles in such films as Marek Najbrt's debut CHAMPIONS (2004), for which Jan won the Czech Lion as "Best Actor in a Supporting Role", as well as in Jan Hrebejk's UP AND DOWN (2004), the Czech entry for the 2005 Academy Awards, and multiple winner of the Czech Lion Awards.
In 2005, Morávek and Jan collaborated on their second film together, HRUBEŠ AND MAREŠ ARE BEST FRIENDS - COME RAIN, COME SHINE. In 2006, Jan worked on a film by Milan Cieslar alongside Tatiana Vilhelmová, Czech Shooting Star in 2003.(2004), the Czech entry for the 2005 Academy Awards, and multiple winner of the Czech Lion Awards.
In 2005, Morávek and Jan collaborated on their second film together, HRUBEŠ AND MAREŠ ARE BEST FRIENDS - COME RAIN, COME SHINE. In 2006, Jan worked on a film by Milan Cieslar alongside Tatiana Vilhelmová, Czech Shooting Star in 2003.
